The main question; are people in your region aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit? A description of our region; Our region consists of small cities and villages (like Schoonhoven, Lopik, Haastrecht and Bergambacht). These villages have a lot of sport facilities, there is a big variety of sports for instance Soccer, judo and taekwondo. Most of these sport facilities are very well maintained and there are actually no big problems. We think most of the people are doing sports, because of the various facilities in this region. We don’t think we need more sport facilities in our region.
Different sport facilities in our region; In our region (Krimpenerwaard) we have a lot sport facilities. Everyone can do different things, the things they like. This are some of the sport facilities in our region; Soccer, hockey, dancing, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, baseball, athletics, tennis, pingpong, squashen, swimming etc. Are the sports facilities well maintained? The sport facilities are well maintained, everything is decently cleaned also in the club houses for example the toilets are well cleaned and that sort of stuff. What problems are there with the sport facilities? There are no real problems with the sport facilities. They are well maintained, but maybe the only thing is that it can be some more cleaned (like at the soccer or the hockey, there are soil/sand heaps). But we think that is not really a problem. What are the positive points about the sport facilities? The sport facilities are nearby and there are various sport facilities. You have a lot of choice when you want to do a sport. And it is for everyone from every age. Are there enough facilities available for sports for each age group, interest group? Is there a need for improvement? How? Yes, everyone can do sport, young people and old people can do sport. I think some sport facilities need some improvement, for example new sport fields but the most sport facilities don’t need much improvement.
What are the sports activities in your school? We have polder survival, a sports day, people from TTO (like us) also have a special cricket tournament and we have PE of course, 3 hours a week. And every year we have a general tournament with people from our school who are in the same year as we are. Last year it was a volleyball tournament with all of the pupils from the first class. And this year we have a badminton tournament with all of the pupils from the 2nd class. Are these the kinds of sports facilities students want? I think that the poldersurvival is very nice, and sometimes we like PE, and sometimes it is not so nice. We think that the cricket tournament takes a bit too long, because it takes from about half past eight in the morning till about half past three in the afternoon. But in general we think the sport tournaments and possibilities on school keep you fit, for example when you do not sport in your free time you will stay fit because of this possibilities on school, and it is nice to do it with your friends! THE INTERVIEWS: Who did we interview? We have interviewed 22 people in total; because we have interviewed 10 adults and 10 children, and then we also have interviewed 2 managers from sport clubs. We interviewed 10 adults;
Quine’s Stephfather: René van den Berg: 58 years old.
Quine’s Mother: Esther Brouwer: 44 years old.
Quine’s Father: Bastiaan Sommeling: 45 years old.
Roan’s mother: Chantal Overbeek: 47 years old.
Thimo’s Father: Tonny Borst: 48 years old.
Thimo’s Mother: Jolanda Borst; 47 years old.
Quine’s Grandpa: Frank Brouwer: 72 years old.
Quine’s Grandma: Marianne v/d Spelt: 71 years old.
Roan’s Father: Robert Verhoef: 48 years old

Other children we interviewed;
Thimo’s Brother: Ivor Borst: 16 years old.
Our classmate: Nicole de Jong: 14 years old.
And two managers of sport facilities in Schoonhoven;
Manager from the soccer: Paul van Schaik
Manager from the tennis: Arno Krimpenhof
The outcomes of the interviews Conclusion about the interviews with the adults. Actually all of the adults we have interviewed gave about the same answer. I think this is because almost all the adults we have interviewed live in the same region (around Schoonhoven) and that makes that they give the same answers. It is very interesting to see how these people think about how the sport facilities are maintained or to see what they think is missing in their region (which was almost nothing). Conclusion about the interviews with the children. We interviewed our brothers and sisters and we went to the primary school; Koningin Emma School. Again they all gave about the same answers to the questions. With the children from primary school, we sometimes had some struggles because they didn’t understand the question or they gave a weird answer on the question we asked. But in the end it all worked out well and we have all the information and interviews we needed.
Conclusion about the interviews with the managers of the sport facilities; We interviewed the manager of the soccer club VV SCHOONHOVEN; Paul van Schaik, and we approached him via an email we sent him with the question if we could interview him. He was very polite and he answered that we could interview him on the telephone at 1 o’clock. The interview went well, he asked us if we could ask the questions in Dutch, so we translated the questions in Dutch. The interview went very well and he gave the answers we needed. We also interviewed the manager of the Tennis club Hofland; Arno Krimpenhof, we also approached him via an email we sent him with the question if we could interview him. He said that we could interview him, but he gave us the phone number of the Tennis club instead his own phone number so first we got a woman on the phone. But she connected us with Arno Krimpenhof. We interviewed him in English and the interview went furthermore well. Outcomes of the answers the adults and children gave; We asked them these questions:
Are people in your region aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit?
Are the sports facilities in your region well maintained?
Are there problems with the sport facilities?
What are the positive points about the sport facilities?
Are there enough facilities available for sports for each age group, interest group?
Is there a need for improvement? How?
What are the sports activities in your region?
Are these the kinds of sports facilities people want?
Adults: All the adults we interviewed say that the people in their region are aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit. At least the people they know do, and they said they are also aware of this. Most of the people we interviewed thought the sport facilities in their region are well maintained. But they say that the sport facilities inside can be maintained better, because most of the sport facilities are outside, the inside sport facilities are a bit neglected. And sometimes it depends on how many members they have, because when they have not very much members, they also can’t earn a lot of money, and that means that they can’t maintain the club and fields very well.. Most of the adult say that there are no real problems with the sport facilities, at least not the ones they use. But some say there are, but not very big problems or something, problems such as; not enough parking spots or that the amount of members in the sport facilities is decreasing, which means they can’t earn enough money anymore and they can’t maintain it very well. Most of the people say that the positive points are that the sport facilities are nearby and that there are enough various sport facilities, and that they are well maintained (with good fields, good lights and a good club house). They also mentioned the sociability in the sport clubs, which is a very positive point. Or that they have a lot of good trainers available. So many volunteers to help with the training or to be refugees. All the adults say there are enough sport facilities available for each age or interest group. And they say that it is important to have so many sport facilities available, because then everybody can do a sport he/she likes. And not that if there is only one sport in your region, and you don’t like it, you will just say that you won’t do any sport.
The people have said some improvements such as: more volunteers to help keeping the club a nice place to be, and to train and to do games. And two people said that they don’t need any improvement, but they only miss a race track in this region. And somebody said that the inside sport facilities could be cleaned better. But the conclusion is that most of the people are satisfied with the sport facilities as they are now. Most of the people could name about 10 sport facilities in this region very fast. Which is nice I think, because with that they show that they know what the availability in sport facilities in this region is! So they know where to go, when they need to find a sport they like! Or to advise a sport facility to someone else, who just came to live in this region! Most of the people say that they think these sport facilities are the sport facilities people like, or at least the sport facilities they like/want in this region. But they don’t know what other people want in this region of course. Only one person wants something else in this region which is a yoga school. A big good yoga school with all different yoga styles. Children: Almost all the children we interviewed said that the people in their region are aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit. They said that they saw a lot of people doing sports outside. The most children said that the sport facilities are well maintained but that sometimes things like the lights on the football fields aren’t working. Almost all children said that there weren’t any big problems with the sport facilities. So, only small problems occur. What the children like about the sport facilities is that they can do sports with their friends and that they do nice games. Another thing that the children like about the sport facilities are the good trainers. They say that the sport facilities have kind trainers who know a lot about the sports and from who you can practice the sport better. The children think that there are enough sport facilities for each age and interest group. Most children say that the sport facilities don’t need to improve something. Some children say that the community house of their sport club can be improved. On the question ‘What are the sport activities in your region’ the children all mention a bit the same sports. They often mention soccer, hockey, tennis, volleyball, athletics, dancing etc. All children think that these sport activities are the ones that the people want. So, they don’t need any more sport facility. Outcomes of the answers the owners / managers gave. We asked them these questions:
Are people in your region aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit?
Is your sport facility well maintained?
Are there problems with the your sport facility?
And what are the positive points about your sport facility?
Is your sport facility good enough for people from each age group?
And is there a need for improvement somewhere in your sport facility? How?
Do you think your sport facility is the sport facility people want?
Owners/managers of sportfacilities: One of the owners said people are aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit and the other one said people aren’t aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit. Both owners think their sport facility is very well maintained. Both owners said that there are no big problems at the moment but the owner from the soccer thought that when there will be more members that they would not have enough space for another field. The owner of the soccer said that the facility was well maintained and that the most positive point is that the sport facility is in the center of the city, the owner of the tennis said that it is very good that they are open every day and that the members can train whenever they want. Both owners thought that their sport facility is good enough for every age group but the owner from the soccer also said that people can’t play soccer very well anymore when they get older because you have to run a lot. Both owners wanted some improvement on the cantine but the owner of the tennis thought that it isn’t really necessary yet and the owner of the soccer wanted the 3rd field to be replaced. Both of the owners thought that their sport facility is the sport facility people want.
Comparison/reflection Compare your results with at least two other groups working on this subtopic. The beatrix college: This group mostly told about things that happened in their city that had to do with sports, this is very different from our results, we really told what kind of sports we have and we told a lot about sports in our region. Their interviews were also very different, they interviewed one owner of a sport facility, 2 adults and one student and the answers were very short and the questions were very different from ours, they have done some more interviews but they are shown in graphs what was answered the most so that isn’t really comparable. Bal bharati public school: This group is actually only telling what is so nice about sports and they tell something about sports after new year that the people think “I’m going to sport a lot this year” and the first time they do it with passion but after that the motivation disappears and they totally ditch in after some time. They do not tell anything about their region or something else about sports. This is very different from us because we told about sports in our region. They have one interview which is nice but it is so long that it is very boring after some time and they ask questions about what kind of diets you should follow and which food you should avoid, they also use very difficult english words and because of that everything is very difficult to understand and that makes it boring. Reflection and Process; Quine: What went well? I think we worked together very well, because we did understand each other and we could help each other. The interviews also went very well, because the people we interviewed were very polite and they listened to us very well. What would you do differently? I think I would plan better next time, because we did all the interviews and we tried to work (which did not always worked out well). But the last two weeks, we suddenly had to do a lot of work. And the division of the tasks didn’t really work out well. What did you learn from this project? I learned that most of the people in my region are aware of the need to exercise regularly to stay fit, and I learned how people think about the sport facilities. We also learned to interview other people and how to ask people if we can interview them or if they have time for us, for example with the children of the Koningin Emmaschool, or the managers of the sport facilities. Thimo: What went well? We worked together really well and when we had a problem we tried solve it together. What would you do differently? Dividing the tasks because Quine did the most amount of work. Roan and I did the same amount of work. So, the next time I would do it differently. What did you learn from this project? I didn’t learn a lot from the project but the next time I will divide the tasks better than this time. Roan: What went well? We worked together very well and also discussed the things we were doing. We could also understand each other very well and because of that it was easier to do. What would you do differently? Next time I would divide the tasks better because Quine did a lot more and Thimo and I did the same amount of work and we should also plan a bit better because we now dit a lot on the end and that gave some stress. What did you learn from this project? I learned a lot about sports in our region and that the people in our region are aware of the need to stay fit. But I did not learn a lot about how to do these kind of projects because the tasks were not divided well but I did learn how to do conclusions of projects and interviews better.
