The first thing we noticed is the high sale. That’s probably because of the period we are investigating (in Holland there are some periods in the year in which there is a lot of sale). On the website it is also very clear to see that it sells a lot of products because on the right there are some categories (see picture on the right: baby, child, woman, man, beauty, freetime and office, living and sleeping, cooking and food and drink). We think that the delivery costs are also important, because nobody wants to pay extra costs. The Hema has free delivery costs when you buy a product with a price of €25,- or more. Below this price, the costs are €3,95 (We searched on the web and found out that €1,- is 76,3 Roepee).
Website Hema: https://www.hema.nl/ We took a look in the shop and saw that many products online are also available in the store, but not everything. |
Summary of the outcomes of the interview with the shop owners:
We asked the shop owners of the Kruidvat, Ton van Alten and the Plus the following questions:
|
We also had a video conference with the Indian people. We asked them questions about out topic but the connection was very bad so we didn’t really heard their answers. We think it was very funny and nice to communicate with people living so far away. They also asked us questions and we tried to answer these questions as well as possible. Due to the bad connection, we don’t have their answers so we can’t use it for our reports.

We compared our answer to main question (Do shop owners suffer due popularization of online shopping?) with the answer of the main question with one of the indian schools, Bal Bharati public school, with the topic: Local shops vs online shopping. We could only compare our answers with one group because only one group put their outcomes on their website.
They wrote down this: Yes, We think local shop owners suffer due to popularization of online shopping because online shopping is easier and cheaper compared to the local shops. Thus, the people who are working are switching to online shopping due to which the turnover of the local vendors is decreasing day-by-day. We wrote down this: Not yet. People still prefer going to local shops to know for sure the product they buy is okay, but we think this will change in the future. One of the shop owners we interviewed said that the amount of shoe shops almost halved in the past 6 years. He is quite afraid that people won’t visit his shop, but at the moment this is not the case. If this goes on like this we do not predict something good for the shop owners. Right now, the online shops do influence the local shops but this is not a problem yet. |
